All about ROAR
It can be important to know the people and history behind a brand. No matter what industry you are in it is always beneficial to see the human foundation that holds it all together.
ROAR – The name
If I was to give all my design adventures a name it probably wouldn’t have been ROAR, that was more of a evolutionary accident.
One of the main aims in playing a video game has always been to get a highest score but it has always been a personal pet peeve that you get 3 letters to display your glory. So here began Stage 1…
RAA
As computer games evolved they delivered the ability to create your whole name! I wasn’t interested by now and just added an extra ‘R’
RAAR
It wasn’t really a word, just a mere noise to display by glorious nerd powers. Now the internet started to flourish and so did the use of the word RAWWWRRRR!! The name took another evolution…
RAWR
By now I had done a couple of websites under the name ‘RAWR Design’ and became committed to the name. That was ok until I faced a dilemma… How do you advertise the word ‘RAWR’ over the radio and expect people to spell it correctly… Time for a final evolution (I hope)…
ROAR
So here I am with a name I didn’t intend to use but I am happy to take it, use it, and prove that marketing will always work if you are willing to invest time, money, and faith into it.
The history of ROAR
I created Roar a few years back as a part time project to help a couple people get on the net. What I didn’t know was it would evolve from a hobby, to a passion, to a business.
The internet is forever evolving and keeping up with the web technology as well as the design possibilities can become addictive. I have had to evolve with the net, I started with basic HTML before recently moving into WordPress as a way to keep the rapid evolution in check.
I like to think of these things as being the key to a successful product. The only major stumbling block is always having the time to do everything, having a passion can also mean being a bit to particular but I can live with that.
The Personal Stuff
My name is Craig Hayes and Roar is my Design outlet. I have been with my partner Stacey since 2000 and we now share our house and pretty much anything in it with our 2 boys Flynn (born 2007) and Liam (born 2010).
Oamaru is the place I call home at the moment, I grew up here and even though I planned to live elsewhere I was pulled back by the family friendly atmosphere.
